hit songs -seperate parts

I was over at this bands house last year recording some drums.
They are a working band who all live together and record...the lounge is a studio with a drumkit, double bass, piano etc and they all play evreything almost equally well.

nyway they had a Marvin Gaye track part by part on their desk, you could solo anything you wanted.

The guy said it was his prize posession having those files.
Is there any way of getting any mix parts from any releases to listen to?
I think it would help greatly with my mixing to be able to hear the sounds pre mastering and on their own.

Wasn't there some company that was selling session tracks?

They weren't yer actual hit songs, but they were supposedly recorded at Smart Studios to 2" and then xferred to wav's for punters to practice mixing...

I think I remember a thread about it at the old place...
