mixing in logic 8.
can i take a 'snap shot' of all my faders and have that automation get recorded over a length of time, or do I have to grab the node and hand draw each point in by mouse?
I am mixing three songs in one Logic session and want to be able to 'snap' shot the different fader values for each song. I know I COULD make a different Logic session per song, but since the material is a live concert to be laid back to video, I'd like it all to be in one session for ease of hearing all the transitions.
thanks

I usually just work the automation for Live recordings
since there usually is alot of automation work allready on there before I get to a new song....
Have you checked the automation parameter box?
it's a window quite like the "event" window.
You should be able to edit/create similar events/values at the same location...

what i mean to say is, imagine one session with three songs.
song one, the drums are hot and you have them down on the faders to ,say -10.
song two, soft, so you have the faders up at say + 4
song three there, say unity.
ok I know how to get to the automation window ('a'), what i want to do is cut the seesions drums into three parts and record those fader values to each song with a key stroke. to take a 'snapshot' of the three songs and the diferent values.
I can see there's a way via the key comad window to create 4 nodes per window, but they seem to always have the automation value at 0, unity. If I have the fader at -10 I want this value to be capture in the automation window.
What I DON't want to have to do is have to draw node points for each change and be rubberbanding node dot's all day long, its just way to slow. isn't there a key comand or somthing to just capture, store, record, whatever the fadder values and wright that value into the autoamation time line?
thanks

the easy way is probably to use Latch recording and record a fader move to the desired position.
Grouped channels that has volume ticked off will move along with the fader you are moving and record a volume automation at the same place.
If you want to you could (and I suggest a different screenset for this) hit ctrl com e wich will open an event window for automation, this is by the channel, but I find it easier to create spesifik changes here.
Now what you want to do is to open up a new arrange page (com 1) while the event window is open. Automation will be packed in regions. like in the old days with MIDI automation.
So now you could create a "Song level" region that can be placed at the begining of each song;create your Volume event in there and copy that region to those tracks that need to be atunated.
Hope that helps

This is quite beside the purely technical aspect, and thus perhaps not of interest to you....
But if it were a live recording, and there's a dynamic shift between songs, I would take care to preserve that live dynamic.
Drums up 14 dB between songs is guaranteed to sound very unnatural.

yeah that would sound bad!
probably a bad example on my behalf, I picked the values in my post off the top of my head only to say IF I wanted big shifts over, say 40 tracks, that I'd like to be able to log that global change (big or small) over all the tracks in one shot per section.
I am used to blocking out each song, or section of song if needs be, locking that 'snap shot' into the memeory in autoamtion, then after I'v done the whole set, going back and fine tuning any rides to thoes snap shots.
in Pro tools I used to 'select all', crop the regions I wanted, arm Vol, and write all the current values to the automation. then at the next region I needed a change, Id do the same. Im finding in Logic I am having to select one track at a time and do a 4 node per cut region. this takes a lot longer over 40 tracks! Im just wondering if theres a faster way that I am missing.
it feels over all like the Automaion is clunky to me.
thanks for all the input though!

Try Creating an "all" group, have edits checked, I'm with logic right now, but that might work.
