How about you, what is your fav. Less Ugly(tm) digital reverb plugin?
I also use mainly Space Designer. Check out the IRs made by rhythminmind, the best I've found so far.

I found a plug in verb that does the long tails like no other software has previously.

    It's really freaking good.

While the Comte is taking his secret with him to the grave you can try out Valhalla Room for free. I plan to try it out later today to see how it compares with plugins I've been using.

    Eos?

Also great if less flexible (and also programmed by Sean Costello).

Secret weapon or not Valhalla Room is well worth the effort to demo....

I also have another secret weapon - use it to give a unique depth to guitars and vox all the time:

    http://www.audiodamage.com/effects/p....php?pid=AD002

(ok it's really more of a delay despite the name, but an awesome spatial tool no doubt)

    And only $29.00

    Had one of those.

Having a feeling of deja vu, that this came up around here before and I mentioned it.

As I recall, it was maybe early/mid eighties, and I had a period where I had a 1/4" 4 track and small board on long term loan from somebody and doing basically science project experimental learning stuff and whatnot. No outboard gear, just mixing stuff now and then to cassette.

Saw one of these one day, thought, hey, I like reverb. I'll try that. T'was cheap. Only realistic options at the time would have been a cheap spring, or this. Bought this.

    Shitty reverb.

I mean, as Hardtoe said, not really a reverb, some sort of cheap 'n cheezy bucket brigade delay circuit or something.

I had fun with it. Shitty reverb, but, in the right setting, it was interesting. As long as you got your head out of any hopes of "simulation of a large acoustic space" and more into "mad science audio fiction". That it could do.

I found early on that things could be interesting if I plugged electric guitar straight in to the "mic" input and just recorded direct.

Got kind of a cheesy but charming spaghetti western clean guitar out of it.

Cranking the shit out of the "microphone" fader and going nuts in various ways elsewhere made for some interesting noises. Best way I can describe it is that Eric Johnson wouldn't be caught dead using this, but David Torn might have a ball with the kind of stuff I was doing with it.

Shitty reverb, but it was kind of wonderfully weird.

Since switching to Logic I've been fairly happy with Space Designer and 1K Multimedia's CSR series, with the very occasional whacky space provided by 2C Audio's Aether.

Funny how popular Altiverb and the early IR stuff got when it first came out, how it was the bee's knees and the end-all be-all... doesn't seem to be anybody's first choice anymore.

I still use Altiverb for certain rooms when I want them - the echo chambers at Cello for example, are excellent on a large variety of tracks.

The impulse of the church named Singlekirk is also well worth the load...

FWIW the Arts Acoustic reverb gets very smooth, long tails in "HQ" mode.

Based on Comte's recommendation, I purchased Eos. I have to say, it is a no-brainer for $49 bucks. Seriously, this beauty could be all one needs. Sounds gorgeous. Does a nice plate thing as well as fantastic halls/rooms. Very versatile, and easy to use.

It happened on day one, when I first put things up and we heard the band in the house.
It just sounded so good as is and with Joan singing live and in your face warts and all.....
What warts?! Her performance on this always struck me as 100% incredible. It still gives me goose bumps.

I realize I can't stop people from writing total bullshit on the internet. But I CAN call them on it, and WE can have a site that people can come to and EXPECT the truth. Sometimes there is no truth. Sometimes there's just opinion. But at least we understand the difference between the two around here.
And that's a big part of what makes this forum SO cool.

I wonder why that is the case. I mean, outboard digital reverbs are...uhm...digital. So it should be possible to transfer their algorithms to the box. Or is it the circuit design that makes them sound different ?
Casey from Bricasti has written quite a bit about this at the purple place. It boils down to a powerful computer designed to perform just one task...
