And long suffering Morten the Mixer...man did these guys give him HELL, and he graciously, and professionally handled all...something a mere mortal would never accomplish!

Like a fuckin' machine, I tell ya!
Yeah!! A big big applause to MortenDK for surviving the mere 8 days we gave him for the mix . And we're talking about a 10 minute piece ending up on 90+ faders (not counting stereo tracks)!!!
Everybody else took the time he needed...

And to make it even harder if not impossible, the last arrangement changes were made in that period as well . I would definitely have hissed the white flag if I were in his position. Kudos to MortenDK!

Yeah, I have to extend kudos Morten's way too. The one downside of having a team with everyone committed to the outcome is that everyone is extremely opinionated when it comes to the mix as well! So to take the 90+ tracks and make anything out of them under such duress is pretty impressive. But the team was great to be a part of from start to finish -- RiF also happens to be the fastest reviser out there. Seriously. The team would say something like "Yeah, that bridge doesn't really work, and the chorus is too long..." and literally within hours we'd have a new version to listen to with a completely different bridge and a shorter chorus.

Just awesome synergy on this team overall, and I'm glad folks seem to be enjoying the results!

Looking at the final result, do you still think they were random?

last night I was listening to this on headphones while having a wee dram of Glenmorangie.... I was hooting and hollering along loud as fuck, and my dog was all kinds of fussed up because of my unruly behavior.... Carlo, hats off!!! ( did you do the talking mill-worker?), The whole group is mind blowing! Tons of subtlety!!!!!!!!! Morton should get a raise.....The mix is stellar.

    You all were born Steelmen!

To say that I despise this genre of music is an understatement.
Listening to this type of music is about as appealing to me as giving birth to a 15 pound baby made of glass shards and thumbtacks.

That said, I'll be darned if I wasn't completely blown away 3/4 of the way through when the guitars seriously stomped in the room.

So, even though I may be bleeding to death and I probably won't listen to it again... my hat is off to the amazing musicians who put this together.

(anyone who knows me...knows this was supposed to be a compliment!)

This is seriously the greatest exponent of collaborative power I've heard.

Like everybody jumped out of the plane at once but met up in mid air like those skydiving troops.

Seriously, utter surrender to the process and at the same time demon control.

It's just crazy. I still don't really have the right words.

I really couldn't approach this piece, lyrically, in the same manner as I would be used to, which made it far more enjoyable...with the theme, we just built out what Rif had for us. The whole team moved so fast, that if you didn't holler, parts would be taken care of, so it was just a matter of trying to stay in the saddle.

We all have places and things that didn't go right in our lives, and this story, once it floated free, took up its own banner, and we just got out of the way...or at least tried.

Patience was a valued member of the team.

A great thing was having Axxium drop the growls into the mix...I once taught him a lick on a nylon stringed guitar, a long, long time ago, then school, Marines, Fallujah, and now workin' life, he's a metal vocalist...thanks, Cape Gods, for the collab blessing!

And attention should go to Rif...the dude can produce music!

    FUCK!

That isn't a wall of sound, it's a freakin' MOUNTAIN of sound with Carlo riding a sonic snowboard down a thundering avalanch of broken dreams.

Ambitious production. It's almost like an audio documentary -- I see black and white stills going across a screen. Kudos to Samizdat for taking the topic seriously and doing a killer job!

Now pardon me while I listen again...

    I just....I...fuck.

    HOLY SHIT.

This track is cinema for the mind's eye. And it makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. And as above...flashes black & white newsreels and clips across my cranial screen.

    Fucking BRAVO guys.

As the track began to take shape, I think we all realized that we had something special. To hear that we have actually moved people really means a lot, and kind of validates it for me. Thanks to everyone for the kind words, I am proud to have been a part of the team.
