Hey I really liked this! Would have perhaps kept Steve's voice a little less effected if I may say so, but that's just personal taste.

Thought the song was pretty good and Steve sounds like John Wetton from King Crimson

    Nice one!

I thought I was doing pretty well in the much coveted "Best Guitar Solo In CAPE" category until I heard this one. Bravo!

Don't hurt that it's a really good song and production too.

Heh, this song was pure alternative 90's goodness...

And that fuzz on the solo is fucking perfection!

Heavy and groovy. I loved having that gap open ~1:19 so I could really hear that crawly bass.

But it's not ALL 90's goodness, there's that sliver of rockabilly goodness in there!

This song changed a lot from the initial demo, a huge amount, and this was all down to our producer & guitar player who came up with most of the guitar hooks and riffs you can hear. I did the ringing guitar in the intro (a Jazzmaster[1] of all things), the crunchy rhythm part and the solo.

Ah, the solo. On the early working track there was a gap there, which I threw this part into during one of my earliest stabs at the tune as a joke. Everyone liked it and the other parts you hear during the solo were worked out to fit with it ;-)

Now to the vocals. I have to admit that when the team was announced I went "oh shit". I've sung lead before, but only under duress (like while in a band with a chick singer and wanting some relief from the unending torrent of oestrogen ;-) ), but I've never been recorded before. Fortunately I have a mic and a stand but alas no pop screen...

Unfortunately you can't DI vocals, so mine were tracked in a bedroom in between the neighbours' bouts of DIY :-)

    Trials & tribulations...

Our bass player developed a serious tendinitis problem just before we kicked off. He managed to pull off the parts you hear here during his injury rehab. Did I hear a " balls of steel"? Yup. We also broke our drummer who needed back surgery last week. Heal quick!

Damn I learnt some stuff on this one. Thanks for the ride guys.

    1) Bought 16 years ago and used for the first time in anger here. I didn't get the gig in that alternative band in Hong Kong ;-)

I love this one. I'm not sure who's doing what. Bass gets a big shout out. Keys are doing some really nice things. Yay for fuzz guitar! I really like the drums. The damn thing is stuck in my head..... kudos all,

    Confession time:

The "Fuzz guitar" in the lead is actually an OTT Line 6 CF patch based on a Bogner Ecstasy model which I named "Reinhold the Red Nosed Rockhead" ;-)

Here's the lineup as I recall it:

Team Uprising - "House Of Cards"
dvyce : Producer, Guitars & Keyboard (Or did mmcginnis contribute tracks to the finals?)
    JamieMuffett : Mixer
    mmcginnis : Songwriter
omikl : Lead Vox & Guitars
    thomas : Drums
    bassman134 : Bass (and a Purple Heart)

Well ya gotta love a team that gives their all...omikl, your shadow is getting bigger now that your voice is outta the bag! You are the complete ball of wax...great job on the vocals, and of course your guitar.

The whole song just grooves...from the baseball-bat bass, to the cobweb keys, with drums that run right through you!

Great song, and writing, great singer and a groovy band...what more could you ask for?

Damn I keep feeling the need to fan boy the singers this cape!

    Omikl,

This was SO cool, so smooth against all that grit, it reminds me in a way of Brian Ferry.

    Very cool guys. Great song.

bassman134 I hear you under there man kept it driving you did!

    Great job all!

I get this somewhat progy King Crimson (and Muse?) vibe floating on top of an overly hot chaotic and heavy summer day. Must be the weather in KL, eh? Great work, really loving it!

It wasn't till Buzz dropped the Muse meme that I got it.. up till then I had been hearing Spirit In The Sky after someone gave the song quaaludes.

I particularly dig the veiled menace in the arrangement, which works hand in glove with the song.

Our Man inhabits the song with his vocal and the guitars, esp. the solo. Sweet instrumental work all around.
