    Default B team unite!

    ......

So lets do running home and plain talk.

i'm discounting saxplayerz vote because he only voted for one song, and that's an easy way to break the tie for second place.

so if logan and fred would drop demos of those 2 songs in the dropbox with a click track that will line up to them like zero start drop in stylie that's be great.

Also, please let me know the tempos.

everyone else, please keep an eye on the drop box to see what's in there.

Ok all hell has broken loose here and I'm unable to record atm, my console has died and I'm spending all my time trying to find the problem. My setup routes everything through the console and I can't find away to just record the click internally with Reaper. The demo was done at 120 bpm and if Half blood has a vision of how he wants to do this then I think he may want to change tempo. If there are going to be solos added the original demo is useless anyway. It's just a simple 12 bar blues so it shouldn't be hard to generate a drum track, but whoever is producing this first needs to determine who will solo and where in order to give HalfBlood an arrangement to build a drum track around. Sorry I'm no help until I can get my technical troubles dealt with.

Do we even know who's playing on the tracks? Take care, Logan

    hey,

yesterday I put in dropbox a demo of "running home" with vocals and ep on one side and clik on the other.

    can everyone play that?

my drop box shows it's there if i'm doing it right and I can play "plain talk" so I hope its there for others.

for plain talk, do you want some wurlitzer type piano, sort of southern rock, country or do we want to go heavier - rock, maybe organ, acoustic piano?

    what's everyone thinking?

sorry to hear about your trouble logan. I sometimes feel I spend more time fixing problems and looking for things than actual work. it get frustrating. hang in there.

Hi Fred. Personally, I like the idea of piano and Hammond - it seems to follow the 'feel', but let's wait for everyone else.

I'll try to put some thought into the song over the next few days (unless anyone else gets there first!).

Probably should wait for Logan - I'm sure he will sort his rig out, but if not done soon, I can work on a click / demo starter for the song.

    Thanks! Mick.

Hi. I was just listening to 'Running Home' ,and it kinda took me to a 'Black Friday' (Steely Dan) feel. Does anyone think that might work from a groove perspective? (or just stay with the current feel?)

    Thanks, Mick.

    I like the funky-ness.....
I think in general that's the ticket (sort of like black friday)
but if the end result could be slightly less "white" then black friday i'd be happy.

I think it's mostly the vocals and guitars that seem to "white" it up a bit, but there's also a sort of rigidity to the drum performance that i'm not into. That keyboard player has it going on though. His part is exactly right, at least to me.

mostly: do whatever makes you happy man, i think that getting all the different prospectives is part of what make this sort of thing neat.

    guys...
i was just wondering....shall someone try to do a demo drum arrangement ?
    just to start building a structure . . .
do you think it's better to start with real drums instead ?

With great monitors its easy to hear and fix problems but hard to enhance things that already sound good.

With hyped monitors, everything sounds good so you don't hear the problems.

With bad monitors, it seems easy to make absolutely anything sound better because you are really fixing the sound of the monitors rather than the sound of the recording.

Well nice to see a few guys chiming in. I've had a PM from Halfblood saying that he's tied up with work for the next week, is Drummertom in the house so we can nail down who will play drums on which tune. The other pressing problem is a vocalist for Running Home , in that, unless halfblood wants to sing it we are shy of vocalists. I really liked Fred's vocal seemed to work well with the EPiano demo he posted. I'd try a vocal if no one else steps forward, but frankly I'm a shitty singer, So do we put a call out for a bonafide vocalist, that needs to get solved.
I think we should kick around groove ideas for a short while and nail down arrangements as to placement of solo's stops etc and then we could produce a scratch demo, to a click, much like Fred has done. Then the drummers should produce a drum track, then Rolling beat should add bass next. I'm a little old fashioned about trying to maintain a bass kick relationship which I think means drums first, if you can't get the section together to track.
Fred on Plain Talk I like the idea of B3 as pads and possibly a piano solo. I'll play some harp possibly although I hate to play when the singer is singing and it's such a wordy song I'm not sure the harp will work as a tag on the line endings. Mick what about a slide solo and a straight rhythm part? I think we could fit two solos in one on piano, one guitar.

Team name: Given the tenuous nature of our beginnings I'd suggest Team Reluctant ;-), let's nail that down and get Goes211 to hook us up with a room where we can hold these discussions.

I'm taking parts of my ripped apart console to a tech next thursday, however I have kluged together a work around and will produce a click driven demo of Plain talk as soon as we have nailed down the arrangement. Take care, Logan

    hey team,

I listened to "black Friday" and I like that feel. "blk Friday" is much faster.

it's a shuffle beat, so I worked up a shuffle beat and stuck the old vocals over it. it's rough and the vocals don't fit at times but I think you can get the general idea. the first demo is more "rock" oriented but the shuffle has a nice feel also.

just some food for thought. ideas?

I will sing it if no one else wants to. I also have a friend that might do it for us, he's a bonofide pro singer. shall I ask him?

mick335 suggested piano and Hammond, so I included that on the shuffle.

Fred on Plain Talk I like the idea of B3 as pads and possibly a piano solo. I like these ideas for "plain talk". if you play harp, why don't you do a solo and i'll just pad thru the song?

I think perhaps it's time to stick a fork in this, it appears to be done. Team Toast seems apt.

I don't think I have the patience for this stuff, so I'm gona respectfully withdraw. Feel free to still do Plain Talk if you like, or just do Fred's fine tune. Sorry to opt out on the guys who are contributing, but we don't seem to have the horses to finish and as I've already said I'm up against other projects and I don't see any momentum. Take care, Logan

Sorry to see you go Logan But....we at least have another song, so let's carry on! (shit! Even if I have to do it all myself!!).

Seriously - can we still do Houston Fred's song? I'm in, and once I sort out this Pro Tools 11 crap (yes! I made that mistake!) I'll be contributing in some way!!

    Cheers, Mick.

Great Tom! Look forward to it.

I don't think we have done much since Fred's shuffle version. I played a few guitar tracks last night, but haven't felt the need to post them!! Still working on it!

Perhaps the shuffle doesn't work after all? As a drummer, what do you think?

    Thanks, Mick.

i'm not a drummer, but i agree with you: i think that shuffle is not really workin on that tune . . . i'd rather try straight . . .

BTW great news to hear you're trying guitars !!! it's good to feel this thing is somehow moving on !
