    hey,

great! we have some conversation going.

looks like a couple guys are leaning toward a straight rock beat, and we'll see what the drummers have to say.

this is great, we can make this thing work.

OK! I know we have almost agreed on making it a straight rock beat, but before I read that () I tried some guitars again.

I've posted an MP3 in the scratch folder.

This is JUST an idea, so the performance isn't excellent, and I actually mixed the guitars hot, just so you can hear it.

I guess I will try again once we have a better idea of where we are going

    Thanks, Mick.

hey great to see some progress here. . . .
i think your rithmyc idea is good, i'd just try not to do the same thing for the whole song . . .
but as far as you're saying is just an IDEA i think we'll work it out.

Listening again and again i'm definitely on the straight rock approach

i'd also make the guitars a bit crunchy and a bit on the dark side . . .

    thanks Mick !!!

now i think we need some drums going !

With great monitors its easy to hear and fix problems but hard to enhance things that already sound good.

With hyped monitors, everything sounds good so you don't hear the problems.

With bad monitors, it seems easy to make absolutely anything sound better because you are really fixing the sound of the monitors rather than the sound of the recording.

    hey,

nice guitar work mick335. nice ideas too.

but now that rolling_beat has weighed in for "straight rock", it looks like the majority is leaning that way.

so next - maybe we need a rhythm track to start building? what's everyone think?

how about gtrs mick, will your ideas transfer over to "st rock"?

Sure. Should we use your original demo for tempo / feel, or wait till we get some drums down? That way, we all play to the drummer, rather than the other way round?

    Thanks, Mick.

Hey guys check the Dropbox folder !!!
i tried some drums and bass
i'm not the drummer of course, but i tried to do some demo programmed drums, to throw some ideas in . . .
    the same goes for bass

    i tried a bunch of different solutions during the song . . . .

If you'd like to play around, the file starts perfectly locked to the grid (120BPM)

now you can listen to what i feel as a straight rock approach on this song . . .

the bass i used tonight is a Hofner Club, very vintage sounding...i don't know if it's the right sound...i used it only because a friend of mine has my Jazz these days . . .

so...hope we have something else to discuss about now !!!

    go go go !!!!

Well.. that bass make s a big difference, so I am now getting onto the groove! Thanks for putting this together.

I'll try some more guitars - by the way - that previous track was just one of potentially more guitar tracks. I certainly had no intent to just leave that as a rhythm track all the way through.

Still.... let me see what I can do (and let's not forget, I am not the only guitarist!).

    Cheers, Mick.

    hey team,

I like some of the ideas that rolling_beat has in his demo in the dropbox. yes, thanks for doing them!

I liked the bass sound. on my system it had bottom and some highs that cut thru nicely giving it a good rock sound.

mick335 asked about tempo, any ideas there, does anyone feel any changes - slower, faster?

if I can get some time here in the near future, i'll try to find some keyboard parts/suggestions.

can we use the rolling_beat drums as a demo/back drop to work up some parts?

once gtrs get some ideas going it will give us all more direction!

    hey thanks man !
happy that you like the sound...
i felt very good playing at 120 bpm, i would'nt change the tempo !
if you guys like the tempo too, we can use my demo as a reference track....i'll provide separate bass and drums tracks anyway, so we can start to build something around . . .

i'd really love to hear what drummers think about (where are they ?) !!

    hey,

I found the 3 tracks, thanks for doing those.

the more I listen to the first demo_drums&bass, I like the "half beat" (or whatever you call it), where the snare hits on beat 3 (instead of the 2 & 4).

I think it gives it a different feel - but unique, good.

    anybody else like that?

yeah the half beat (that's how i call it actually) was one of the ideas i threw in . . . in the demo is meant to be a way to prepare for the next section of the song . . .

let's see what drummers think !

Hi guys. I've just added an MP3 (for now) with some heavier guitar, and a touch of slide into DropBox. Again, not a 'performance' tracking, per se.... just wanted to know what you thought.

The track is Running home rock gtr July 7

    Cheers, Mick.

    hey,

thanks mick335, good work, nice touch. you have some good ideas there. during the "half beat" drum part I think we should leave that part more open for the drum groove?! for me, I really like the "half beat".

I also worked up some synth ideas. I put it in the drop box.

just ideas for thoughts. it won't hurt my feelings if we decide not to use any of these. some or all of this may be too much, over the top??

I added an intro (I heard thriller last week). very evil chords, we don't have to keep the talking. maybe add heavy gtr chords thru this?? a friend had fun playing some lead notes thru these chords?!

I then added this same part towards the end of this demo to see if it would work better as a middle section?!

then there are a few pads added here and there, one during the verses. and a couple at the end of the verse.

we need to hear from our leaders and some of the other players, we need some fresh ears and direction.

    comments?

    thanks

I think that we'd need to leave more space in general!
Anyway i like the heavier guitar feeling, i'd go even heavier!!

I can't see anything in the folder, maybe it didn't upload properly ?

i also didn't see synth anything in the dropbox, so keep that in mind.

    i put a file up
    "running home, andys edit"
    you'll see it.

i didn't use any guitar because i didn't have an isolated track of it.
make a isolated track of it that starts at zero with the other stuff. just one track is fine for now, idea stuff and all and re-upload it.
also, a little less thin and effected, just for this pre-production phase. it'll be easier to pay attention to the ideas, instead of the sound.

    All of the above?
    that's kinda what i did.
    \
you'll note i used some of the original key track, because i missed his funky ass line, and other times i used the newer, more stripped down line in other places where the "extra room" was nice.

I pulled the bass from the very beginning and used it near the end. keep an eye out for that, not a big change.

i used the shuffle part too.

if you don't like it then you also hate puppies.

i added guitar, i do not intend to add any guitar to the finished product.
    mostly because i suck.

    you'll see that soon enough.

but i just slapped some of that shit on there to broadcast the idea.

pardon the slap-dash nature of the editing and the epically bad jerry garcia like guitar solo.

    puppies dammit!

i know that's not the "real drummer" but i really dig some of those changes.

    lemme know.

hey man, i liked it !

i'm in for the heavy guitar idea you put in

i also agree on using the electric piano part, i feel it can maybe be dubbed with a guitar (advanced stereo FX )
it would be helpful to hear a new performace of it !

i'm not sure about the shuffle...i mean, you put it in the right place for sure . . . maybe i just miss a middle section before it
it kind of comes too early !
