Default Flowers tracks (mix a mess!!)

Here's the tracks for the song flowers that some people thought it might be fun to try and remix.

    A couple of things:
The guitars are 2 different takes, recorded at different time and weren't meant to be used together.
You can use one, both, or mix as you see fit.

    DI tracks are included.

I'm going to make an arbitrary rule here.
Let's try for no drum replacement on a "straight" mix. If your trying an honest mix lets see what can be done with the drums you're stuck with.

Drum replacement for creative reasons (if someone has a weird idea, or just an odd take) is encouraged.

Also, let's impose a deadline, just to have one not because it's important.

    Let's say February 20th.

Here's the tracks, lemme know if there's any problems downloading them.

    FYI, there is no bass.

It's been decided that one can be added, if u like, but a
"this is what I'd try and hand the band" mix would have no bass.

I think it would work better with the kik hard left and snare hard right.

And it is still too dry.

I thought the vocalist could use some Axl Rose stage moves.

Protip: You can share the folder in dropbox as a public link and it gets downloaded as a zip file. Easier than individual files

Didn't know that. So if I just put it all into one folder, it'll download a a zip without my further intervention?

These guys are great! When's the album out?

So, to me they sound (or want to sound) like somewhere between The Cramps and Polyphonic Spree, with a singer somewhere between Lou Reed and David Byrne.

    Added
    Bass Guitar
    Organ
    Tambourine
    Egg shaker

    Ditched
    Keys
    Vast swathes of trumpet
    DI guitars

    .mp3 attached

    I love this song now

well, i cant show them that one, it's far too good!

I believed you've officially raised the bar.
(though, not a mix for the band, as it involves lots of things you had to do yourself, and you took out an entire musician)
Man, that bass makes so much difference.

Maybe you could make that bass track available for other people?
(though there's no telling how well i'd work with the original keys in)
It's so nice to hear bass in that song.

    Always the highest compliment! Thanks

...you took out an entire musician
You could always tell the keys player you used audio-to-midi to change the keys to organ, and just tweaked it a little?

    Here's the dry bass DI:

hey guys this is starting to sound like a Frank Zappa record !

    My Mixes on Soundcloud

With great monitors its easy to hear and fix problems but hard to enhance things that already sound good.

With hyped monitors, everything sounds good so you don't hear the problems.

With bad monitors, it seems easy to make absolutely anything sound better because you are really fixing the sound of the monitors rather than the sound of the recording.

I take that as a compliment

I must admit I was stone

(The bass is not even playing in the initial chord, so sometimes the voice seems detuned)

I had fun, thank you for the share

It was a compliment indeed !
The not-in-perfect-tune vocal didn't annoyed me at all.

Now i don't know how to try to mix this thing !
