    Default Show laptop

I'm in search of a new laptop. I am very anti-mac. I have a studio PC that I built. I need a laptop that will mostly be used for shows for preshow music, SMAART, doing recordings of show, and for a cue program.

    Any suggestions?

I know Mac is the industry standard. But for what I am using it for it is not too heavy on the recording side where I'd be needing a mobile workstation.

    Thanks

If you are refusing to consider a Mac, then your only choice is a professional grade PC, not some $199 special at Best Buy.

I'm all Mac here. I also regularly run other operating systems so I'm not "anti" anything, so I'd caution against that attitude from the get go.

No matter what you'll want an SSD drive, as much ram as you can put in, and so forth. Besides running Spectra Foo mine does things like Qlab so I'm ready for it to deliver show audio and video, and then regular stuff like frequency coordination of the wireless, Smaart, and so forth. I also keep some audio and video conversion utilities and a decent audio editor on my computers as well as some DAW so I can multi track a show. I work in a group of theatres that have consoles with Dante in them so I have Dante Virtual Soundcard in my laptop so I can multi track a show easily with a single ethernet cable. So I'm prepared for all of that.

For what it's worth, none of the larger rooms I've seen in southern CT and LI (we have quite a few) who use desktops and laptops to control FOH and monitoring are running anything other than Mac hardware (and, overwhelmingly, Avid software). I don't see Wintel boxes; I don't see Linux boxes. Not to say rooms like that don't exist somewhere, and I'm sure others will chime in here to relate their experience with boxes that don't have an stylized apple on the lid; just that I don't see anything other than MBPs used for the purposes you describe, and there's probably a very good reason for that.

If you're hoping to make money at this, you probably can't afford to be quite so partisan in the OS wars.

Got my laptop from PC specialist, custom build. Bloatware free, heavily stress tested before it was shipped. Best laptop I've had to date. Avoid Dell like the plague.
    I'm probably talking shit.

"Mixing most 'heavy' records is like trying to find order and lucidity in a recording of a Cathedral Pipe Organ, all stops out, randomly veering between Handel's Messiah, Ginestera's 2nd and a coupla Bach Fugues, in a Titanium kitchenware foundry, while a gaggle of enraged PCP snorting gorillas with bullhorns conduct a demolition derby with cement mixers against the soothing cacophony of a nearby landslide/tsunami/heavy artillery exchange."- Slipperman
