    Default Chris Squire: RIP

    Had to say something here.

    Guy was LOVED.

I thought his 70's work was some of the best of the era.

    Anyhoo.

I'd say "He will be missed", but he WON'T... At least, not in my head.

I hear his passionate and melodic approach as often as not when I think of the electric bass in any abstract sense.

Well. I haven't been in here much for quite a while now, and somehow, I missed this.

How is this only 12 posts?

Squire will be missed by me, a lot, even though in one sense, he won't be, in the same way as der Schlippermensch. His work will always be in my head, not just in the literal sense of the sound of the stuff stored in memory, but in the way he did things as a whole.

When he finally showed up, anyway.

There's some missing irony. Nobody making any jokes about how the running joke of "the late Chris Squire" suddenly became something different.

(As somebody once told me, anything Yes ever does starts whenever Chris Squire finally arrives. There are stories, some of them hilarious.)

    What a giant.

    Really.

I mean, he was one of the magnificent greats of music, not just all about the "musician's musician" stuff about a player on his particular instrument.

But seriously, the dude was fucking huge. About 6 foot 5 or so, and in the last couple of decades of his life, started packing on the pounds until he probably weighed as much as a small aircraft.

Let's not hold that against him, though.

    What a brilliant character.
