It's an entertaining read, but the inner editor in me winced at "got my goad"...

Don't wince too hard. You might hurt yourself. I meant goad, whether you think it's correct or not. I have altered a number of idioms in this work, and based on the definition, I can make a very good argument for my use of the word "goad," not that I should have to.

For starters, it's a Sanskrit word, and if you'll notice, I used "tiger's share" instead of "lion's share." I also wrote "when you pay peanuts you get elephants." So, there is precedence in the work for my altering the original idiom like that.

As a writer I would generally prefer to avoid using the obvious cliche when possible. So, if I change the original cliche, there's a reason for it. In this case, it's because I don't have a goat to get. And given the definition of Goad in Merriam Webster (along with it's origin), I'm inclined to keep it.

    1
a : something that pains as if by pricking : thorn
b : something that urges or stimulates into action :
    spur

    2
: a pointed rod used to urge on an animal

    Origin of
    GOAD

Middle English gode, from Old English gād spear, goad; akin to Langobardic gaida spear, and perhaps to Sanskrit hinoti he urges onFirst Known Use: before 12th century

Now that I've used "goad" in my book, from this point forward, either "goat" or "goad" would be an acceptable usage. Such is the beauty of a living language.

I'll keep up my search for an appropriate copy editor just the same.

    Thanks,

Why not unearth the legendary Penny Pincher Song which as far as I know, remains unreleased? Could be the hook your ditty needs to really get over. Angry songs about powerful women are hot right now and probably will be for the next 12 months.
