Default Music Reports Statutory Licensing Division

    Hello Wonderful Womb Dwellers.

Wondering if anyone else has received letters from Music Reports requesting a W9 for tax purposes.

My licensing and royalty earnings are meager, and I am not terribly sure about some of these documents.

I just want to make sure I am not doing something that flies in the face of my ascap writing and publishing royalties.

Perhaps I should be reaching out to ASCAP directly.

    Any thoughts or advise?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_Reports

"Music Reports was established to enable broadcasters seeking to reduce music licensing costs. Music Reports developed a per program license and administration service to collect and process television station schedules and revenues, and to automate report preparation and submission. Pursuant to the signing of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act in 1998, Music Reports initiated a program of copyright licensing for digital music services. In doing so, the company played a significant role in the development of digital media and content rights."

And what a specious development that has been!

so I am unclear. By signing this am I agreeing to less royalties, or am I just signing up for all that is available to me?

I'd be suspicious that it's just a scam to get your SS#. They don't need it unless your earnings are over $500.

    ^^ This.

Also, you should be able to get a EIN to use instead of your SS# if your earnings are over $500.
