You think they would be great for roots/blues music with a sonic preference wich is not that modern?
I think Svante would do a great job of mastering anything that resembles music.

Are there no aesthetic choices made in mastering that are genre specific? Cause if there are - shouldn't you pick an ME that is experienced in the field in wich your specific project operates?
I can barely bring myself to make genre-specific decisions in recording and mixing.

Maybe I just believe that mastering is not so much about genre as it is about preserving sonic and musical intent. Almost all genres and styles are represented by albums that have been bright or dark, dynamic, squashed, or whatever. What the client is going for should be readily apparent by listening to the mixes, and anything that isn't, shouldn't be rocket science to figure out in a conversation with the producer.

Right. So, no guess work, no buying a pig-in-a-poke. If the genre you want mastered is conspicuously absent from the ME's reel, would that give you pause?
Not really, but there obviously is a period of time when you are establishing a rapport with an ME. I have usually pretty much let him/her go for it, without too much direction, and the result should inform me of his/her musical instincts.

    right.

i've already made my country record to sound like a country record, or my death metal record to sound like a death metal record.

my mastering engineer is, in either case, going to help me translate my intentions... not impose his view of a 'genre'

I'd call that perfectly illustrative irony.

You're going to have to be more specific.

Math Polka. Time signatures are no longer divisible by three, in fact, the Fibonacci sequence is all the rage now.

An unspecified number of polka dancers had to be hospitalized recently after an attempt to dance to the Feigenbaum constant.

Hahahahahaha! I once tried to dance to a Braque painting and ended up with a turpentine treatment.

Yeah, imaginary time signatures are tricky indeed.

I was at a jam the other night where the drummer kept playing to an imaginary time signature.
