    Default Demo Studio?

I have a buddy looking to send his song demos somewhere to have professional vocals recorded over his demo tracks.

If he likes the result, he is interested in having some of the instrument parts possibly re-recorded.

This is a hobby project, but I wanted to know if anyone here at the womb would either be interested in working with on this.

    OR

If anyone knows of a studio that offers this type of service.

Professional means $s; how much are you willing to pay the talent? What kind of voice are you looking for? I can't vouch for anyone else, but I wouldn't be able to do anything without getting paid to do it. I know a few singers, and I would only charge $25 for an hour of recording - but not on a "if the dude likes it" kind of basis.

sorry, either I did a bad job explaining, or you did a bad job understanding.

He is looking at spending $200-300 to have someone record a vocal line.

If he likes those results, he may consider spending more money to have some of the other parts retracked.

I listened to his stuff and on the vocals, he kind of needs them reimagined as they are pretty much just lyrics spoken in time over his backing track.

He is likely looking for something like that.

He is new to this, and the task is beyond me. The studio he has been talking to sounds like a bit of a factory... "send us the money and will take care of the rest" It stuck me that someone here might know outfits like this that he should avoid or perhaps seek out for this type of work.

It would be his first time doing something like this, and I would hate for him wind up wasting his money.

(and I get that this is not a huge dollar opportunity for anyone here, just looking for some guidance)

Has he considered trying to find someone local to collaborate with? Then they could finish writing the songs to his satisfaction before spending money on recording.

Funny you ask, I just sent him this note:

You might also post something on Craigslist.

"Looking for vocalist with decent home recording set up that can track vocals for songs I am working on... Just for fun right now, but if we hit it off and you like my stuff maybe we can write some things together. Music is rock... think some Who, some Red Hots, some Stones. I have demos and lyric sheets for a handful of songs. Drop me an email with a sample of your voice if you are interested in trying out some digital/virtural collaboration."

You can't really hire a "singer" if you don't have a melody.

    That's hiring a SONGWRITER.

He paid $150 for two passes. She sang once, he made notes, then she sang again.

It sounded very home studio, but she had a nice voice so he was super pleased.

It's interesting, but there are people out there who seem to be satisfied with "that'll' do" or "close enough" in both the audio and video realms. They aren't necessarily interested in "good" or "great."

I had a friend who wanted me to record something so she could put it on Youtoob, and when I started asking questions about the size and scope of the project, it turns out that she pretty much wanted a live-to-mobile phone, potato quality video.

I suggested she could do it herself, for no other reason than I can't think that small.

    Cheers,
    Tim
Don't forget, we are all engaged in a battle to the death against mediocrity.

The best radio mic system that money can buy is ALMOST as good as a $20 cable.

Was the potato mashed, french fried, baked with added butter, sour cream, and chives, au gratin, crisped, boiled, made into salad (sweet, sour, German style), what?
