Every tool I've got here is telling me they're 24 bit. Versions of FLAC prior to 1.2.0 have known issues with 24 bit files.

If you're on a Mac use the version of xACT Charles linked to. If you're on Windows, make sure you grab the latest version of the Windows FLAC tools from the other link. Make sure you're using version 1.2.0 or above.
I used the latest version of xAct as listed with the files and got the dropout - I've been busy with another mix so I haven't had a chance to re-decode the files to see if that fixes anything. I'll get the specific info as far as which overhead file and at what point the dropout is, but I can tell you that using the latest version of that software doesn't ensure the dropouts don't happen.
You can hear some of my work at http://www.thedubnicks.com - feedback appreciated!

They are 24bit 44.1kHz for me too, I hear no drop out from 1:50 - 2:30 in either OV1 or OV2. I decoded with Windows FLAC from Charles link

Charles, I've created a zip file with Wavpack compressed versions of the files I've tested and know to be good. Do you have somewhere I can upload it to make it available for those having problems with the FLAC version?

    It's 137mb in size.

Edit: OK, I can make the file available myself, but I guess I'll need permission.

I downloaded the files, converted them and began mixing last night. I had no problems at all and I didn't notice any dropout in the OH files. The dbpoweramp program that someone suggested is quite fantastic and every Windoze user would be wise to test it out.

I am very fond of this song and I'll enjoy working on it much more than Little Bird. One thing I keep wanting to hear is more guitars, it's just that there aren't many guitar tracks to work with. I have some ideas about how I'll deal with that.

How do you make guitars bigger without making them louder? Wait, wrong thread.

Hmmm... looking for a workaround. My platform (Sonar 6PE) doesn't support flac.

If I can export it to a CD and import it into itunes with advanced pref set to import as .wav files I'll be golden. I don't usually convert files to .wav so this is the first thing that comes to mind.

Okay... I'm feeling like my communication skillz are sadly sucking.

FLAC is a data compression format.

To use the files on your DAW you need to first decode them (using the software mentioned above) into a format that your DAW can use.

I know FLAC is new for some of you, but my hope was it would make downloading the files easier, because they would be so much smaller.

If I'm not explaining this very well could someone else give it a crack?

Alrighty... that doesn't work. These are regarded by itunes as data files also; "files not found".

Looks like I need to convert to .wav

Any ideas on a conversion tool?

Oops... Your communication skills are fine, Charles. My reading comprehension could use a bit of work though

I'll go to the last page and see about the decoding software.

I for one appreciate how much effect FLAC can have on file size. I actually had to write a similar encoder/decoder in college. Lossless audio compression. To this day...I remember that I passed and ended up with about 52% compression on a speech sample, but have NO clue how I wrote it.

As soon as FLAC becomes a little more common, I'm gonna re-rip all my old CDs into FLAC files. Much better than listening to mp3s.
