Damn. Wish I was around to sign up. This song sounds great. If more bands put this much work into their work modern music would be so much better.

I remember when an EMT140 wasn't working at my old job. They're all kept in the same chamber. we tried to fix it there as the shop wa a mess and the noise we made leaked into every plate there getting used.. good times.

    Those things sound amazing.

    Hi again,

Ryan/Mixerman, would you be so kind to answer a little question:

Were only the overhead-tracks eq'd while recording or some others as well ? And which microphone(s) / position did you chose for the guitartracks, was it the standard sm-57 or something else ?

    Best wishes,

    Marco.

I can't remember what I EQed and what I didn't to tape. I'm not precious about that.

Guitars had mostly Royer 121s. Some cabs had 57s. Mic position was determined by ear.

    Hey Mixerman and Strange Faces

I just want you guys to know that I had a blast mixing your song. It's a great production on a great song. The recording and playing is top notch as far as my ear allows me to tell and I love the voice ...

my little question: what's the rules regarding limiting the mix. Is it allowed to slap a limiter on the mix (aka self fucked up mastering attempt) or do you guys prefer a straight out the desk mix (a la top notch mastering eng will destroy my mix better than I'm able to)

btw for my mix I did some "small" treatement that I'd ask the producer what he thinks before even trying to ad it - but I don't wanna bug anyone here and I like what came out so ...

I think this should be as before, a "mix" event.

    Not a pseudo-mastering/limiting one.

Surely here of all places we don't have to play that game?

    Mixerman, thanks for your reply.

    As for the mastering/limiting question:

I think this should be as before, a "mix" event.

    Not a pseudo-mastering/limiting one.

Surely here of all places we don't have to play that game?

Been searching hi and lo and can't find it...I'm definitely sure there was a post from Charles somewhen at the former mixit-events referring to the mastering-question... he said something like 'anyone will surely recognize if a mix is pseudo-mastered and polished that way, we're all smarter than that - this event is about mixing, not your mastering-abilities'...correct me please if this was quoted wrong.

The limiting thing is another one IMO...if someone feels she/he has to crush the shit out of it, because it treats the tune and is part of the sound which one's trying to achieve...why not ?

    Best,

    Marco.

I prefer what I think sounds good. If it sounds good at -18 db I'll leave it there. If it sounds good at -6 db I'll push it there.

I am jinxing myself by saying this and my mix will suck, but it almost seems like this is a test to prove that a monkey could mix a well tracked and produced song. Besides the good recording aspect, the way things flow into one another and don't step on toes in the process. If that wasn't the intention, it doesn't matter as I have learned from that alone intentional or not and I continue to learn that everyday, one day I might learn how to track better I suppose.
