    Exciting. Yeah. Sure.

You'll be one of the first sucked into the black hole they create.

I should have booked a cruise and maxed out all my credit cards since the end of the world is at hand.

Not yet, bubba. Dec 21, 2012 is the day.

In the meantime, Doomsday predictors all over the world have been sorely disappointed since the test was successful .

The way I understand these super colliders is:

You spend $9 billion and you run a few very exciting experiments. You gather the results, shut it down and start building the next larger one for twice the cost.

However, that thing is still the coolest piece of equipment on earth for the time being. It is only slightly less powerful than the last model of NibNob power supply produced by the Soviets during the 80's.

Only it's been falsely reported...the actual end of the world/universe is next week.
There have been no collisions yet...they have just succesfully fired particles round one direction in the tunnel. Soon they will test them in the opposite direction....then some clever sod gets to push a button which COULD end the universe. Of course it prob won't cos the universe revolves around me and I have shit to do..

I felt a great disturbance in the force, billions of souls crying out, then ... nothing.

Well, it could have been the chimichanga from Margaritas and not the LHC.

    It's all bullshit.

I was watching a show about it on the tube last night and they claimed they invented the internet for it just to handle the huge amounts of data.

Everybody knows Al Gore did that just to handle the huge amounts of porn.

I've discovered a small black hole in my wallet decades ago.
    It disappeared after my divorce.

It's still not too bad, considering. The US spend more than sixty times that annually, just to blow shit up.

Not to mention the total cost of the Iraq war. Nice to see money getting spent on something constructive every once in a while.

As for the whole "end of the world" scare, they said the same thing more than 60 years ago in Los Alamos. We're still here.

I've been reading a brief history of time for a second time round.
What I don't get is how come scientists are sure the universe is finite and expanding.
Whats it expanding into if it's finite? Something INfinate perhaps?

You can't tell me THAT isn't a worthy cause!

That black hole they created is already sucking people's brains out around here.

    Is this Cheney's October surprise?

“That doesn’t make sense. What if I took a rocket to the
edge of the universe, then I kept going. Couldn’t I keep
going forever? Where would I be if not in the universe?”
“You are always part of the universe, by definition. So
when your rocket goes beyond the current boundary, the
boundary moves with you. You become the outer edge for
that direction. But the universe is still a specific size, not
    infinite.”
“Okay, the universe itself might be finite, but all the stuff
around it, the nothingness, that’s infinite, right?” I asked.
“It is meaningless to say you have an infinite supply of
    nothing.”
    “Yeah, I guess so."

There's also another four-letter scientific project that draws my attention - ITER

If this project succeedes the problem of energy would be pretty much solved!

That doesn't mean that other universes don't exists beyond ours though. As a matter of fact, physicists believe they do and they make up the so-called "multiverse". But as we cannot reach these other universes because:

    a) we would have to go through a wormhole which forms in proximity of a black hole and that not good.

    b) even if we got there the ground state would be different (meaning that electrons, for example, could have a different weight) so our existence there could not make sense.

    Woops. Sorry.

You kids probably didn't know cartoon shows used to be printed on paper and sold for 10 cents.

    They were in color too.

The surface of a balloon is finite. When you blow it up, it expands, but it's still finite.

So what. Big deal. Our existence here doesn't make much sense, either.
