Re: Baseball 2010: Green grass, red clay, and another world championship
Today, for the forth day in a row, the Twins have had double digit hits! 14 on Saturday, 19 on Sunday, 20 on Monday, and tonight they had 19 again. Four games, 72 hits! The last three have had double digit scores, too, which is a first since 1967! Oh, and Danny Valencia? In those same four games, he has gone 3-5, 3-5, 4-4, and 4-5!
I know we are playing two of the worst teams in baseball, but on the other hand KC has the second best team batting average in the majors (right after - the Twins!), and the second most hits in the majors (also right after the Twins!). Granted that they don't seem to be able to turn that into winning games, and they have a God awful team ERA (.512 - only Arizona and Baltimore are worse).
Baltimore, I'll grant, just suck.
But the boys are looking more like themselves, and lets face it - if you are going to make a run at the division (much less the post season!), you really do need to be able to beat the snot out of the worst teams in the game!
Oh yeah, and Carl Pavano? He won his 8th straight decision, which is a career high.
Good game, if your a Twins fan. Probably not nearly so good if you are a Royals fan, I'll admit.

Oh yeah, and they also beat the record for hits in three consecutive games (58 - used to be 50!), and tied the record for most runs in three consecutive games (40).

5 games in a row with more double digit hits, though no double digit score today. But they swept the Royals - not the hardest thing, I know, but important if you want to make a run for the division.

REDS are still rolling along taking two of three in Houston and the same in Milwaukee....Tough series with the Braves coming up but it's nice to be in a pennant race at the end of July....it's been 11 years since the last one...

I'll be routing for your boyz to take out the Braves so we can reclaim first place in the NL East...

Just like I'm rooting Probb's Mets to beat the Cards today....The Mets came back last night but couldn't finish them off.....great game, but it would have been better for the Mets to have won it and the REDS not having to share 1st place...

Don't know if that's a good thing or not....The REDS have beaten him up the last two times they faced him, and he used to be the REDSkiller.....but I'm glad you guys are getting him instead of St Louis.......

Re: Baseball 2010: Green grass, red clay, and another world championship
Ok here's something we've been discussing lately...Do the teams on the west coast have an advantage because of the time difference?....When the REDS go out west, they always have trouble and usually lose more than they win.....should MLB look into this and start west coast games earlier....if you're a fan of a team on the east coast, does your team have problems out west? Inquiring minds want to know...

Re: Baseball 2010: Green grass, red clay, and another world championship
Huh?
I heard this might be comming, but I didn't really think we needed another closer (Matt Capps from the Nat's), though Rauch has had a hard time in the last month or so. Of course, he hasn't had all that many save opportunities, either - we've either been behind, or so far ahead that it wasn't a save - but still.
So, Wilson Ramos is going to DC. I think you'll like him, Tim. He's pretty impressive. And it is, I think, good for him to get a chance to play in the majors. Around here, I'm afraid he was the fourth catcher on a team that only really needed two!
I have to admit, though, he's not the Nat's pitcher I would have preferred!

That's the plan...but you know they are the REDS......It looks promising though. Johnny Cueto tonight and Bronson Arroyo tomorrow....I'm a little scared about Edinson Voquez on Sunday as he's having trouble finding the plate......should be good ballgames though....

Not today, looks like!
But I think the days most entertaining game would have had to be the Royals-Orioles game. Two crappy teams, both having just been raped by everybody else in the majors, playing one another? That has to be fun to watch! At least, if you like watching train wrecks.
The Twins today beat the 27th different line up the Mariners have put up in 27 games. Hey, it has lead to our longest winning steak of the season, so far!

Despite the horrible umpiring it was a great game....The ump behind the plate had the most inconsistent strike zone I've ever seen. One pitch it was a strike and then a pitch at the same spot would be a ball next time. Cordero was out of the 10th with a strikeout if the ump were consistent. Besides that, it was a great game to watch. Today's match up should be another good one and it's on National TV (instead of the usual Boston or Yankees) at 4pm EDT.

You can't blame the ump's.It's been bad all around the league
Meanwhile my boyz CANNOT score runs on the road
Funny thing is JA Happ pitched six innings of shutout ball allowing just three hits. While Oswalt gave up five runs in six innings. Go Figure...
I'm still not worried...
