Re: CAPE V -- Team Conception
Mous...YOU RULE...vocals are laid perfectly...your breath is like a finger-print on this song!
The instrumentation is so fresh in it's approach...it's like ya'll robbed some funky music store, and produced a song with the booty!
Right on...great one!!

Re: CAPE V -- Team Conception
Mix rocks.
Drums SLAM without getting too in yer face. Props. I can't do it.
Wide split guits (all of 'em) get a LOT of points across well.
A lil Elmers Wood Glue Organ keeps it gellin'
Bottom end is just right.
And who invited the young Roy Orbisson to sing? F'n mous... WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME? We coulda been famous by now dude.
Very well executed.

Re: CAPE V -- Team Conception
Along with Team Hypnosis, this is the other CAPE tune that I hear and think, "Why the hell isn't this on radio?"
Everything about this tune is fabulous, from the vocal performance to the songwriting to the sitar to the killer mix...way to go!

Re: CAPE V -- Team Conception
Wow- it's finished
I have to say how honored- and proud- I am to get to work on this team. Thanks eternally E Shaun- and any of you, anytime you need some little bit, I'm forever indebted for the opportunity to be in this one.
Me and mous actually did a reggae version but I wouldn't want anyone to hear it unless I cleaned it up. That's because the song was originally in a triplet feel! Sometimes things change amazingly from the demo.
For me the funniest part is that this continues what I've always done. I always wanted to play on songs but it seems that what I'm actually good at is BITS. The gritty guitar on the left verse 2? The little synth licks on the right at the end of the solo? It's the same as always- I do BITS to pop out of the song. ChrisJ, bit-player
Actually Mixie thought he was featuring me on the solo but that sitar lead is Goes
I have never worked with Goes before and I've never had such a good CaPE experience as far as great people working well together professionally. I can't say how pleased and flattered I was that Goes called me up asking for that synth bit or 'something more melodic for the solo', glad I could oblige. I'm also floored by Goes for another reason- while we were tracking, we tracked to Goes' scratch lead vox for the new rhythmic feel. I tracked all my guitars and everything very much in line with the Goes scratch vox, even bvoxes.
Meanwhile- and to my mind this is the mark of true giftedness- Goes laid down tracks that went perfectly with the FINAL vocal, which wasn't there yet, on the strength of knowing what Mous sounded like and how he was likely to sing it. And in so doing, Goes became totally the foundation of the song- and taught me a lesson I'll never forget
Best team EVAR, love you guys

What a fucking hit this could be.
Jesus, guys.
All of you.
And yes, Chris, your bits are recognizable as you.
Err...your musical bits.
Not your man-bits.

Re: CAPE V -- Team Conception
Well YEAH, I thought I said that. I do the three seconds you remember months later. Been doing it on CaPE after CaPE. This is the first time someone (Goes) actually called up and ASKED me to do that, which makes me feel good. I got twelve seconds of the grittiest Pete Townsend guitar in the CaPE (more wouldn't have worked, but there were two tracks of it throughout the whole song in case Mous suddenly decided to be all AC/DC ) and twelve seconds of synth laaaaaah a la Tommy Mars. In that case Goes _wanted_ me to play more but I thought it was better as it was, so Goes replaced two entire guitar solos (tracked by me and Tim in case the song suddenly decided to be Layla, and those two solos together were magic too) _behind_ the synth lead and kept it
So I got twenty-four seconds of track into the mix, but oh man, it was the RIGHT twenty-four seconds thanks to Mixerman's eye for contrast and Goes' need for melody, and that's what working at this level is all about. Again, I am so honored.
Goes got his come-uppance when Mixerman deleted a whole pile of truly awesome Goes high harmony parts- a whole little vocal arrangement- and replaced them with backing vocals by Mixerman
Moral of the story: when the team is good, the cutting room floor is AWESOME too. Period. If there isn't awesome stuff that was discarded, well... so always remember that. You should be giving so much that they're throwing away your GOLD. Otherwise you didn't give enough awesome to have some left over. I remember when I thought I had to record great stuff and then it would be used on the song, and if it wasn't used it must have sucked. Ah youth
Jason- those bits are recognizable too, but _you_ wouldn't be recognizing them!

That's a great point Chris, and one worth repeating.
I STILL listen to an alternate bridge from Team Mystic in CAPE IV, where Tammikkuu has these tribal yells over top of these heavy guitars and oud. I remember Otek commenting about having to clean bits of Tammi's lungs off of his pop filter after tracking that.

I just love this. I love the ascending vox harmonization on the bridge, I loved the solo, the feel of the whole song, how clear and light it presents itself to the senses...like I said, I love it.

Re: CAPE V -- Team Conception
Killer mix...erman!
AWESOME vocals. Amazing.
Guitars--great. Who did the clean parts in the verse? I really liked that part.
Dik--the drums are perfect. Perfect!!!
The break after "sinkin'"--I love it. Hitting the "2" in the other chorus--wonderful. The arrangement of this is incredible.
The ending rules.

Mous is like a thinner, better looking Roy Orbison.
Really dig the sitar and guitars, and Big Dik's drums are great.
Another really nice mix. Guy could have a future in this biz.
This is a hit; my pick to click

Re: CAPE V -- Team Conception
If I had to call it anything it would be some early Traveling Wilderbeatles frozen in carbonite then flash fried back to room temperature to be shocked at what has become of things left only to reclaim that which has fallen. Very well written and and effective. Excelent performances! Last cadence kills. Hehe I love it.
