Re: putting our session files up - not everyone has the same plugins. For instance, are we going to post 32 jpegs of SSL Channel so that everyone is on the same page? Plus all the different effects we use?

Re: Mix it Like a Record Event
Yep. We know that. But for those who do, it will be helpful. For those who don't, there is still a ton of other stuff they can look @. Automation, sends, edits, mutes, general layout, etc...
The bottom line to the project/session file exchange is that we want to up the learning a notch. We can type till we are blue in the fingers, but some stuff is just best communicated by showing others exactly what you did, and then all you have explain is the WHY.
@ least that is our theory going into this.
Let's just try it + see if it helps or hurts. My guess is there will be an extra layer of learning that comes from this.
About the 32 jpgs, I would say that wouldn't be practical. This isn't meant to feel like homework, it's meant to be fun. We obviously don't all have the same DAWs + plugz, but nonetheless I think we have the opportunity to learn a lot by looking @ other's project/session files + how they do their mixes.

Re: Mix it Like a Record Event
I think we should just listen to everyones mixes, and maybe decide on a few mixes to upload the session files for the mixes that just sound awesome. And for everyone else, we can just give a short description to each track as far as what we used, why we used it and so forth....so when you are listening to the track you can look at there track/mixing notes.
But that's just what I think.

I think the point is.... For those who do, it will be helpful and educational. Others can still discuss with everyone else.
I don't see a problem uploading session files.
We're either sharing knowledge or not.

I have no objection whatsoever. My suggestion was just to keep things from possibly getting too complicated. But the more I think about it, it probably wouldn't get complicated at all. I would love to see what everyone is doing. And it really would fit the whole MILAR thing since we would all be providing our session files. Let's rock!

Re: Mix it Like a Record Event
this is sort of why i suggested using stock plugs in the other thread - so people have the best chance of seeing what other people have done with the same tools. but i'm sure that would have opened a whole different can o wormies.

Re: Mix it Like a Record Event
Thanx, e + r!
And yeah, B, that would be cool, but create other issues as you said. I love the idea + I think we should try it on a future round.
For this one, I thought we should just let everybody do what they do, how they feel most comfortable, + see what happens.
I'm fairly certain of 1 thing, on the back end of this we will ALL discover somethings we didn't know + weren't expecting to learn.

Re: Mix it Like a Record Event
In the interests of *objectivity* at the "discussion" stage, would it not be a good idea to make the mixes available FIRST, for a first round of discussion, and then when the project files go up, a second round? Like we could play "guess the plug" or something
Also, I know for a fact that people would scream "What the FUCK does this guy think he is doing?!?" if they saw one of my project files, but the clients don't see that and they're usually happy with the results...I would hope that everyone on here is above letting a person's methods colour their view of the end product, but ya never know...
Just my 10p.
Either way, I'm up for it if time permits. It'll be like CAPE in reverse. Or something. Is there a link to this thread on the C&C board (I ain't checked yet)?

There isn't any from me.
I was merely elaborating on Brendo's post and thinking
'out loud'.
I think sharing session files is a great idea.

Re: Mix it Like a Record Event
when the mixes are revealed will they have names attached? or will the best mix be voted on, as "mix 1, mix 2, mix 3" etc?

Re: Mix it Like a Record Event
To be clear it's not about the best mixes. The criteria could be many things. Basically, the recipient will be whoever the group feels should receive the DVDs. Could be based on their contributions to the learning cycle, or who would benefit the most, who's mix you liked the most, etc.
But this really isn't meant to be a contest + the focus of the event is education.
To your question, B, I'm assuming the names will be attached, cuz we'll have been discussing them with each mixer.
